salt stories

Mangroves are too often dismissed as muddy, mosquito-ridden swamps—valueless spaces easily cleared for development and progress. Salt Stories challenges this perception by presenting them as pristine, vital coastal ecosystems. The work creates a deliberate push/pull reaction: its striking visual beauty acts as the hook, drawing the viewer into a theatrical, interactive artist book designed to be constructed and experienced firsthand. Featuring blind-embossed buttress roots that open to reveal the narrative, the piece symbolizes the delicate care required to protect these environments, while bolded letters throughout the story reveal the ‘Pulse of Life’ poem at the heart of the work.
